As
you enter the hotel, the Club Lounge beckons. Its impressive scale
and elegance forms the natural focal point for the hotel. And
you will be immediately struck by the sight of one of Scotland's
finest art collections.
The array of mainly Scottish paintings, prints and artifacts
blend magnificently with the splendor of the hotel's interior
to create an unmistakable ambience of subtle opulence without
pretentiousness.

One of the highlights of the collection is the Four Philosophers,
a large, imposing 19th century painting which had to undergo considerable
restoration. The finished result is most striking indeed.
Other 19th century works in the collection feature William Hargreaves,
Copley Fielding, Samuel Bough and Henry Valter. The sense of almost
being in a country home is immediately apparent.
To add to this great visual experience, the recent refurbishment
was carefully and tastefully balanced to enhance and highlight
some other magnificent period features to provide the perfect
backdrop for this outstanding collection.

The original brass stair-rods remain on the Grand Staircase (thought
to be the inspiration for that in the Titanic's ballroom), the
original tiled walls remain on the other stairway, and the resplendent
columns and pillars have been lovingly restored to combine very
beautifully with the more contemporary nature of the decor.
